Let's face it, Mao was a weirdo. Not only did he commit acts of total lunacy and immense cruelty during his reign, leading to deaths of tens of millions of people, much of what was in the name of the industrialization of China (he really thought that China could catch up to the West in 5-10 years).
His personal life and his weird comments make him one a true role model for the wacko dictator. The private physician of Mao from 1955 to his death in 1973, Dr. Li Zhisui, described a man full of strange habits and immense self-deception. Mao refused to bathe and brush his teeth, and had to be sponge-cleaned by his assistants. He lay in bed all day, and although infested with venereal diseases, he slept with peasants girls, sent to him from the countryside. When he traveled through the countryside, local party officials would only show him homes plentiful of food, at the same time people were starving. They would even light fires in the night, telling him that they were steel-furnaces.
The words and writings of Mao are though the best testament of his sick mind. No other dictator in history has such an abundance of weird quotations as Chairman Mao:
"War, this monster of mutual slaughter among men, will be finally eliminated by the progress of human society, and in the not too distant future too. But there is only one way to eliminate it and that is to oppose war with war, to oppose counter-revolutionary war with revolutionary war, to oppose national counter-revolutionary war with national revolutionary war, and to oppose counter-revolutionary class war with revolutionary class war..."
"Despise the enemy strategically, but take him seriously tactically."
"I voted for you during your last election.", said to Richard Nixon.
"Passivity is fatal to us. Our goal is to make the enemy passive."
" have said that all the reputedly powerful reactionaries are merely paper tigers. The reason is that they are divorced from the people. Look! Was not Hitler a paper tiger? Was Hitler not overthrown? I also said that of the Tsar of Russia, the emperor of China and Japanese imperialism were all overthrown. U.S. imperialism has not yet been overthrown and it has the atom bomb. I believe it also will be overthrown. It, too, is a paper tiger."
"Communism is not love. Communism is a hammer which we use to crush the enemy."
"Revolution is not a dinner party, not an essay, nor a painting, nor a piece of embroidery; it cannot be advanced softly, gradually, carefully, considerately, respectfully, politely, plainly and modestly."
"Swollen in head, weak in legs, sharp in tongue but empty in belly.", said about intellectuals.
"Once all struggle is grasped, miracles are possible."
"Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love."
"The socialist system will eventually replace the capitalist system; this is an objective law independent of man's will. However much the reactionaries try to hold back the wheel of history, sooner or later revolution will take place and will inevitably triumph."
"Every Communist must grasp the truth, 'Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.' Our principle is that the [Communist] Party commands the gun and the gun will never be allowed to command the Party."
"Politics is war without bloodshed, while war is politics with bloodshed."
"The force at the core leading our cause forward is the Chinese Communist Party. The theoretical basis guiding our thinking is Marxism-Leninism."
